Prepreg, wet-lay, forged carbon and FRP: what you are actually buying

“Carbon fiber” covers four very different materials, and the difference decides how a part looks in three years and whether it fits on the first attempt. We make our parts from prepreg carbon cured in an autoclave, and we offer FRP and forged carbon where they make more sense. Here is how they compare.

Every visible carbon part we ship is prepreg: the weave is aligned across the whole panel, the surface is sealed with a UV-stable clear coat, and the geometry is taken from the car itself, so the part sits on the OEM mounting points without cutting or shimming.

How our carbon fiber parts are made

Each part starts with a 3D scan of the specific model and generation, for example the BMW X5M F95 LCI or the Mercedes-AMG G63 W463. The design is built around the factory mounting points and body lines, then a master and a mould are machined from it. Prepreg carbon is laid into the mould in three to five layers with the weave aligned, vacuum-bagged and cured in an autoclave at pressure. After trimming, the part is clear-coated, wet-sanded and polished, then test-fitted on the vehicle before it goes into production. What a carbon fiber part changes on the car

  • Weight. A carbon hood or spoiler is typically 40–60% lighter than the plastic or steel original, which reduces mass at the ends of the car where it matters most.
  • Aerodynamics. Front splitters, rear diffusers and roof spoilers are designed as a set, with the same edge lines, so the car reads as one design rather than a collection of add-ons.
  • Finish. Gloss or matte clear coat, or painted in the body colour with an exposed carbon edge. Colour-matching to the factory paint code is done in-house.
  • Reversibility. Parts mount on the OEM points and can be removed without traces, which matters for leased cars and resale.

FAQ

Is carbon fiber worth it over plastic or FRP?

For a hood, spoiler or diffuser the answer is usually yes: the part is much lighter, stiffer and keeps its shape in heat, and a prepreg surface with a UV-stable clear coat does not yellow. FRP is the sensible choice for large painted panels where the weave will not be visible anyway.

Will the carbon yellow or fade in the sun?

No. Our parts are sealed with an automotive UV-stable clear coat, the same type used on painted bodywork. Wet-lay parts with a cheap resin are the ones that yellow.

How much weight does a carbon hood save?

Between 8 and 15 kg depending on the model, roughly half the weight of the steel or aluminium original. A carbon roof spoiler or mirror covers save less, but they remove weight from the highest points of the car.

Do the parts fit without modification?

Yes. Every part is scanned from the specific model and generation and test-fitted before production, so it mounts on the OEM points. Installation takes a few hours at a partner dealer or any body shop.

What is the lead time and do you ship to the US?

Parts in stock ship within a week; made-to-order parts take 3–6 weeks depending on the model and finish. We ship worldwide, including the US, EU and the Middle East, and every part carries a 5-year warranty.
