ABS, polypropylene or composite: which wide body kit for a Trackhawk, SRT or Durango?

A wide body kit for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk / SRT or Dodge Durango SRT costs anywhere from $700 to $6,000 before paint. The gap is not a markup: the three price classes are different products. Flare-only sets (about $700–1,400) are polypropylene or ABS fender extensions glued over the factory body. Full ABS kits ($1,400–5,000) add bumper covers or lips, skirts and a splitter, still as unpainted injection-moulded panels. A composite kit like the RNG Design Tyrannos V3 for the WK2 ($6,056) or the Durango SRT kit ($5,806) replaces the front and rear bumpers with new parts moulded as one matched set, supplied primed and mounted on the factory points. This guide compares all three honestly, with what each costs installed, so you can pick what fits your build and budget.

Flare sets: the cheapest way to go wide

Wide body extension on the WK2: the seam with the quarter panel is what a flare set has to hide with paint
Wide body extension on the WK2: the seam with the quarter panel is what a flare set has to hide with paint

A flare set adds roughly 3 inches (7–8 cm) per side and is the right choice if you want the wide stance on a budget and already plan wider wheels. Expect to buy wheel spacers, trim the inner liners and glue the flares with automotive panel adhesive. The factory bumpers stay, so the car gets wider but keeps its stock nose and tail. Downsides: the seam between flare and body is visible unless a body shop blends it, thin plastic can distort on a hot day, and once glued the flares cannot be removed without repainting the quarter panels.

Full ABS kits: more parts, same plastic

ABS kits from US sellers add a front lip or bumper cover, side skirts, a splitter and sometimes a hood. They are injection-moulded, so panels are consistent and cheap to replace, and most ship from US stock. What they do not change is the construction: covers go over the factory bumpers with adhesive and clips, everything arrives unpainted and needs sanding, primer and paint, and conversion kits on 2012–2016 Grand Cherokees need 2018+ headlights to line up. Some premium ABS kits are sold in limited runs of 25–50 sets, so replacement parts can be hard to find later.

Composite kits: new bumpers, one matched set

Dodge Durango SRT with the RNG Design kit: new front bumper with splitter, extensions and side skirts as one set
Dodge Durango SRT with the RNG Design kit: new front bumper with splitter, extensions and side skirts as one set

The RNG Design kits are moulded in-house as one set: the front bumper with splitter, rear bumper with diffuser, wide body extensions and side skirts are designed together, so the lines meet without filler. The parts replace the factory bumpers and mount on the original points without drilling; on the WK2 the Essential set is the front bumper with lip, rear bumper with diffuser, LED stop light and stainless steel exhaust tips, with the hood, grille, extensions, skirts and spoilers as options. On the Durango SRT 392 and Hellcat (2020–2027) the Essential set already includes the front bumper with splitter, rear diffuser with tips and stop light, wide body extensions, side skirts and LED daytime running lights. Every part is supplied primed, ready for paint in your colour, is UV-resistant and weatherproof, and carries a 5-year warranty. The honest downsides: the price, a 2–3 week production time plus shipping from the European warehouse, and you still need a body shop for paint and fitting. Every part can also be ordered on its own: wide body extensions cost $1,360 for the Durango and $1,496 for the WK2, a splitter for the WK2 $660, the Durango front bumper with splitter $1,696. That matters after a parking scrape or an accident: most parts are kept in stock by our partner installers in the USA, so you replace the one damaged part locally instead of waiting weeks for a full kit.

Which one should you buy?

Wide body extensions for the Durango can be bought on their own and the bumpers added later
Wide body extensions for the Durango can be bought on their own and the bumpers added later
  • You want the wide look for the least money and keep the stock bumpers: a flare set, plus spacers and a body shop to blend it.
  • You want a full exterior change on a mid budget and accept unpainted plastic panels over the factory bumpers: a full ABS kit.
  • You want new bumpers that fit like factory parts, a finish that lasts and a 5-year warranty, and the car is worth it to you: a composite kit.
  • Not sure: start with the wide body extensions from the composite kit and add the bumpers later; all parts are sold separately.

FAQ

How much is a wide body kit for a Trackhawk or Durango? From about $700 for flares, $1,400–5,000 for a full ABS kit and $5,806–6,056 for an RNG Design composite kit, all before paint. Painted and installed, plan on $2,500–4,500, $4,000–10,000 and $9,000–11,000 respectively.

Is a wide body kit worth it? If you run wider wheels, show the car or simply want it to look different from every other SRT, yes. If you want a cheap visual change you may remove later, a flare set is the safer spend; glued flares and painted composite bumpers are both permanent decisions.

Do I have to paint the kit? Yes, every class ships unpainted or primed. ABS parts need sanding and primer first; composite parts from RNG Design arrive primed, so the body shop goes straight to colour.

Will it fit without cutting? Flare sets usually need the inner fender liners trimmed. RNG Design bumpers mount on the factory points without drilling; the extensions are bonded like any wide body part.

Which Grand Cherokee years fit? The RNG Design WK2 kit fits 2011–2021 Trackhawk, SRT, Limited, Laredo and Trailhawk. ABS conversion kits for 2012–2016 cars need 2018+ headlights to match the SRT front.

Which Durango years fit? The RNG Design kit is for the 2020–2027 Durango SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat front end.

What if one part gets damaged in an accident? Every part of the kit is sold separately, and most parts are kept in stock by our partner installers in the USA. You buy the one splitter or extension that was damaged from a local dealer and the car is back on the road in days, without waiting weeks for a complete kit.

Do you ship to the USA and who installs it? Yes. For Trackhawk, SRT and Durango kits in the USA our own team delivers to your door in most cases, a freight carrier only occasionally, so the parts arrive intact and there is no third party in between. The kit is then painted and fitted by a body shop or one of our ten partner installers.
